The family you were born into is part of your natural family. The family your children are born into is also part of your natural family. Even if your natural family is perfect, you still need a new family for your ideals. The former is good for your heart but the latter is great for the entirety of your life.
As you grow up and as you grow older, your best friends become part of your natural family. However, neither your best friends nor your natural family generally focus their efforts on your ideals in the long run. They are willing and able to support the matter of your heart but, as they also have to think of others in your family and friends, their mission is frankly not on your ideals.
As stated in the Guide to Thumoslang, your ideals are the same as your ideal self, which means, what you truly want to become. “Everything else is secondary,” said Steve Jobs. Publish a new book, graduate from high school and then college, become a parent, and bring all your other dreams to life. Do them all at the most appropriate time. Such a major undertaking of realizing all your ideals promptly cannot be carried out without deliberation similar to that which is carried out by an enterprise. Here the enterprise is your business of the self. Its mission is to conceive and develop further your ideal self.
If you want run your business of the self professionally and thus successfully, you must avoid doing it alone, by yourself. Doing it professionally means doing it using standards of behavior as expected by different professions from various industries.
To professionally run your business of the self, you need to have at least two different minds capable of joint intellectual effort, in this case, necessary for success in the making of your ideal self. What you need is the second, independent mind from someone who has long-term interests in your ideals. This cannot be true so long as your decisions are only influenced by your self-serving bias.
